Loved “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” by Deborah Moggach. Her observations about aging, dilemmas facing retirees, taking risks late in life and passionless marriages are wry and “right-on.”
The picture Moggach paints of London is pretty grim (I caution first time tourists to wait and read the book after they visit) and she’s equally as frank about the drawbacks of living in Bangalore, India where a group of diverse retirees converge at a rundown hotel.
The film of the same name came out this year and received good reviews. It stars some of Britain’s finest thespians: Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy (adore him!), Penelope Wilton and Tom Wilkinson. Adorable Dev Patel is also in the cast.
