Erik Larson bestseller

Erik Larson’s bestselling “In The Garden of Beasts” could also be called “Sleeping with Nazis.” I was very impressed with the extensive research the author used to extrapolate minute details from obscure diaries and unpublished memoirs to make a compelling read.

Set in early 1930s Germany during Hitler’s rise to power, the story focuses on the American ambassador, William Dodd (known to his detractors as Ambassador “Dud”) and his audacious daughter Martha, a gay divorcée with a voracious appetite for carnal pleasures. She enjoyed “dancing on the rim of danger,” to quote Mr. Larson. “In The Garden of Beasts” offers fascinating insight on the inner workings of the Third Reich and a terrifying era in world history.
